As you may have heard, it has been announced that Yahoo and Microsoft have teamed up in order to attack Google’s Market share. This 10 year contract puts Microsoft in the driver’s seat, and allows Yahoo to make the majority of the profits for the first 5 years. It also allows Microsoft to access Yahoo’s database and algorithm to allow Bing to supposedly provide more relevant results and for it to rival Google in customer loyalty. Microsoft claims their search engine to be as good if not better than Google, and have just received Yahoo’s seal of approval. Yahoo claims to forecast a saving of over $200 million dollars with the merger, and will likely rake in a good amount of money from the profits, but at what cost?
Yahoo will never be the same. Its endorsement of competitor search engine Bing have killed its legitimacy as a search engine. It has basically turned at its back, exposing its belly to its competitor, offering itself up for a quick buck. Although this may be profitable for the first 5 years for Yahoo, it is hard to say what will happen when the profits stop rolling in. Eventually, Yahoo will want its independence after their contracted terms are over. By this time, Bing will have pillaged Yahoo and stripped or copied everything good about it. After 10 years of propping up Bing, it is hard to say if Yahoo will remain a competitive brand.
It is my opinion that this merger of convenience is not only bad for Yahoo, but it is bad for consumers. Yahoo should have focused its strength on innovation rather than making money. It is only through innovation that a company will succeed in the future. If it would have invested in a stronger algorithm or in better functionality, it would have risen in ranks amongst the competitors organically.
It is hard to say if Bing will ever reach the top tier, as Google owns nearly the entire market, but this current turn of events will definitely benefit the company. Yahoo on the other hand, may need life support come 10 years.

When creating a social media marketing campaign through sites such as twitter and Facebook, one has to create a plan that will promote the company’s interests and values while letting go of all control. Social media has a life of its own and if your campaign is not built to deal with the possible consequences of releasing control, your social media campaign may be doing your company more harm than good. The following is a list of best practices when creating a social media plan for your company:
- Have a plan – Creating a social media plan is the first step in getting your company started. You will begin with selecting the market you will be targeting. Find out what networks they are on and begin creating a list of sites you will join. Research to find out if your competitors already have a foothold on these sites; study them to know of whether they are successful and where you can improve upon their tactics. Read the comments and reactions that others have posted to see if they have a good following and how often they update. This is also the point where you begin to plan what message your campaign will broadcast. Consider it as part of your company branding and keep it consistent. This includes figuring out who will be in charge of updating the networks, and budgeting for hiring a new employee if need be. Since this person will be in charge of representing your company, be sure it is a professional person who will report directly to the head of the company on progress.
- Create an Representative Identity – Understand what you want to say and who will say it. Will you be representing the sentiments of the CEO or will you be joining using your logo mascot identity? This will be based off your research into who your market is and to who you think they will respond to best. For example, a company selling a professional service may do better off being represented by the CEO identity who offers expertise and legitimacy as opposed to a toy manufacturer who may benefit from being represented by a cartoon or toy identity. Select a professional picture as the face of the company and be sure to leave the pictures of last weeks crazy party out. This is of course unless you are in the business of throwing crazy parties. Keep your images relevant to your market audience.
- Focus on Relationships – This is the most important recommendation on the list. Social media networks are built on the fact that we want to stay connected with friends and loved ones but don’t focus on your number of connections alone. Relationships are what the whole phenomenon is about. Creating a network of friends who you do not stay in contact with or don’t repeatedly update is useless and may make your company look cold. If you do not have time to focus your attention on the networks you have created it is best to not create any network at all.
- Let go of Control – Understand that social media sites have a life of their own and posting your company to these sites is an open invitation for feedback including complaints and criticism. Keep your intentions transparent so that you don’t appear deceptive. Always be accessible and never ignore important questions your network may have. If your company has recently made news for a recall or for a potentially embarrassing incident, do not try to ignore it and hope it goes away. Chances are that someone is already talking about it, and eventually it will lead to bad press. The best way to combat this is to be sincere in how you handle the situation and to direct the conversation from the start. Begin blogging about the incident and how you plan to fix it. This way, you can curb a downward spiral before it starts.
- Analytics – Certain sites such as Facebook allow you to get a certain amount of analytics on who is visiting your site. Find out who they are and target that industry. Also set up a Google alert that will email you every time your company is mentioned on the internet. This way you can have an early warning to your company being misrepresented.
- Set up Benchmarks – Benchmarks and goals will allow you to rate the success of your social media efforts. It is only through them that you can know if your efforts have been worthwhile. Some companies will focus on the amount of friend requests they receive, while others will be happy with new sales leads. Some others will target different promotions on different networks to find out which are working best. Regardless of your tactics, figure out what you want out of your campaign and being realistic with your goals, start with small, reachable goals that will grow and evolve throughout your social media lifespan. Without goals it will be difficult to gauge if your efforts are paying off.
- Be Consistent – Focus your efforts collectively to form a consistent message. Most social media users are members of numerous social media networks and chances are they you will come across each other on another site, be sure your message is being reinforced to avoid any confusion.
As you can see there is a lot involved in creating a basic social media strategy. In order to be involved in what your audience is saying about you, make sure you hire a professional to create and implement a solid strategy based on relationships. Otherwise you can hurt your company by being inconsistent and appearing deceptive. It is our belief at SABA that a successful online marketing campaigns start from the bottom up. As a professional SEO and SEM company, SABA can develop a successful social media plan for your company that will help with your website’s Optimization, ultimately leading to more sales and a higher ROI. With the release of Yahoo’s new and impressive search engine homepage, a lot of concerns have arisen on sites such as twitter and facebook discussing how Yahoo may change the face of on page search engine optimization. Yahoo’s new landing page is indeed impressive and has user friendly changes that may appeal to a broader market. These changes include direct links to some of the most popular social media sites, and a display to keep you up to date with popular trends. With new changes, yahoo may gain a larger share of the market at the expense of Google and Bing. Their interface is definitely more user friendly than their competitors and may gain popularity. I myself am impressed to a point that I may use Yahoo more often. Yet regardless of anyone’s concern, it is doubtful that on-page SEO as we know it will change.
Proper on-page Search Engine Optimization that is found on sound principals will transcend any change that a search engine will make to its algorithm. This is only because a properly optimized site will take advantage of every opportunity to optimize for their properly chosen keyword. So long as you follow your basic guidelines of good white hat SEO, including making sure your links and hosting are solid; and so long as your content is relevant to your search terms, your site should not suffer from any change to Yahoo. An algorithm change will most likely change the basis by which Yahoo rates its sites. Perhaps it may emphasis h1 tags more for example, or it may downgrade the importance of a description tag. Either way, if your entire site is optimized, you will not have to worry about your on-page SEO suffering from any current or planned changes. This is because regardless of the standards by which search engines determine your ranking, all search engines still read the same code. They all rely on the same criteria for indexing your page (content, titles, descriptions, headlines, etc). This is why it is important to have a comprehensive SEO strategy, because it takes all of these factors into account. A change in Yahoo will not affect your on page SEO efforts. If any consequence exists to a change in Yahoo, it will likely be of benefit your company. You will have the opportunity to be amongst the first to take advantage of any new opportunities that Yahoo may provide for your off-page SEO. This may include the way you conduct your social media campaign. One example: begin to focus your social media attention on the social media sites that Yahoo is now advertising on their home page, you may find an influx of traffic thanks to Yahoo.
The basic idea of on-page SEO suffering by improvements to a search engine are ridiculous and show a lack of understanding of the SEO process. It is not until we as a society begin to change the way we develop websites that search engines will change the way they read our sites (most notably today is the inclusion of CSS and the effect is has in search engine friendliness). This would require a major overhaul or evolution of the basic principals that have led us to where we stand today. It is not until HTML and the way we use it change that SEO principals will change. Until then, we have ways to tell search engines what our websites are about and what category they fall under. Until then, search engines bow to good SEO and rely on it to be able to work for its viewers and advertisers. If you notice a change in your ranking immediately after Yahoo’s change, I would suggest for you to closely examine your site’s architecture, links, host and content to look for what you are doing wrong so you can fix it; also look at your competitors to see what they are doing right to emulate it.
Regardless of any changes made by Yahoo, one change you can count on, is on them strengthening their policy to fight against black hat SEO practice. If you are a practitioner of the black arts, don’t be surprised to find a fall in ranking. If you are an innocent bystander, then stay away from these websites that try to run a foul of the system. Please read our blog about bad neighborhoods to find out how you can prevent having your site hosted next to spammers or how to look for links hidden in your site or your partner sites that direct a viewer to flagged sites. Both of these can get you flagged as a spammer. Even though you may have good intentions, you will be cited because of your associations and your sponsoring of them.
We are Saba, A San Diego SEO Company. We recommend that if you have any doubts about your search engine optimization strategy to give us a call immediately before you get flagged, and black listed. It is afterall a lot easier to get flagged as a spammer than to get un-flagged. Avoid costly mistakes and call us at 1-866-937-1717 today.

In order to subscribe to a URL shortening service and find it successful for your online marketing campaign, you must understand the benefits and consequences of using such services in a case by case basis ( tweet by tweet basis for twitter fans ). In this blog we will be covering when to use the services, when to avoid them and when to compromise between the two. We will discuss this while keeping in mind the importance of search engine optimization and how you can improve your marketing efforts.
Any good SEO expert will tell you the same thing. Stick to the fundamentals and you will see results. One of the fundamental rules when creating links to your site is the use of user friendly keywords in your link text. This is easy when posting links in HTML because you can choose to link any text of your choice to any webpage you want. You can easily select a word and link it to a page. Unfortunately though we are often faced with posting direct links without the help of HTML. In this case we are faced with the decision of whether or not to use a URL shortening service.
The use of URL shortening services is on the rise and can be easily seen when visiting twitter.com. They are the links that usually look something like this: http://tinyurl.com/lyaz6y, http://budurl.com/7ma6, or http://bit.ly/nd8bk. The use of these services are a growing phenomenon with sites such as Tinyurl.com and budurl.com. Sites like these have helped and hindered companies who are working hard to promote their companies online. They allow one to post short links, avoiding the use of long dynamic URL names. The use of such shortened URL’s will thus help problems often associated with long dynamic URL’s such as the lack of readability, difficulty with page layout, and maximum keystrokes allowed ( such as with twitter’s 140 character limit ). In these cases the use of these services can help, but will come at a price to your seo efforts.
1. Before posting, ask yourself the question: Is this page I am linking to a dynamic URL or a static URL? If your answer is dynamic, you are probably out of luck because your URL will most likely not be keyword rich, and your URL is not helping your SEO efforts. On the bright side, you will likely be able to use the URL shortening service to concentrate on the extra space the service allows. You can now focus on your pitch to entice your readers to visit this link. Your pitch must in this case be targeted towards your specific keyword to make it relevant to the shortened URL you have posted. Because the link is not specific on what page they are about to see, you are going to have to be smarter in your choice of words and accept that some of your readers may be hesitant on clicking on your link.
2. If your link’s URL is static, ask yourself this question: Are my site’s filenames optimized? If they are your URL will probably look something like this.
http://www.sabaseo.com/seo-services.html.
This link is obviously targeted to the keyword seo services. By posting this link the way it is, you have just created a relevant link that will target your keyword, while avoiding having to re-direct your site through a 2nd party. This link will have a lot higher ranking and will be trusted by your readers. They will know what to expect when clicking to follow your link. In this case, they know that SABASEO is the company, and the information they will access will speak about seo services.
By targeting specific keywords and keeping your site structure simple without many subfolders, you will be able to have optimized URL addresses that will be short, simple, and will not need any type of URL shortening services. These links will be stronger and will rank higher because they will not have to be redirected.
Avoid dynamic URL structures whenever possible and use relevant keywords in your pitch. The best links or tweets will be the ones that are highly targeted and have both the pitch and URL optimized. To optimize your site structure and make sure that it will help you in your marketing efforts, contact us. We can help you put together a keyword strategy for your site, and can optimize every aspect of your site to ensure compatibility, SEO friendliness, and future online growth.

One of the most important steps a business owner takes is in developing a website for their company. It can be the most enriching and valuable experience for a company as it begins to experience the many benefits of owning a website. Along with the potential of monetary gain and a reduction in marketing costs, a website (when developed properly) can be a great communication tool for gaining access to your market audience like never before. In addition to these benefits, a website also allows your company to take a giant step towards sustainability and cutting your company’s carbon footprint by reducing the need for print collateral and the need for transporting your information from location to location. It can be a great first step in promoting your site and company as earth friendly.
In today’s economy your customers are aware and are ever-more conscious of their actions and business practices and the effect they have on global sustainability. They are comforted by knowing that you take these concerns to heart. By creating a website geared towards sustainability, you are effectively reducing the need for resources consumed through conventional print advertisements. You can feel proud that while making a decision to grow your business, you are at the same time helping the environment.
The internet has revolutionized the way people do business by changing the way they are found and the way we communicate. This large influx of online business has hurt the print industry as more and more businesses make the switch. They in turn have raised their prices to supplement for the loss of business and for the increased prices on raw materials. Unfortunately, innocent companies have paid the price for this change by having to pay more for advertisements that are less effective than they were 10 years ago. Having a website eliminates these costs as it has changed the way the game is played. You no longer put out advertisements in an effort to find your customers. With search engines, your customers can find you. Forget about advertising in those old directories that nobody looks at anymore, and get your company real results with a fully functional website.
Green Web Design will reduce the cost of doing business. By migrating your annual reports, catalogs, marketing materials, and collateral work to an online platform, you are making your materials accessible to everyone worldwide. Imagine the savings on postage and gasoline alone! Now employees, colleagues, and customers can access this information with the click of a mouse. For companies who rely heavily on print media such as annual reports, the transition to an online database can save hundreds of thousands of dollars, while allowing for easy data editing and updating.
By creating a user friendly website and by following good web design practices, it is possible to create a site that is enticing to your visitors. With a website it is possible to encourage a visitor to fill out an online form, request a quote, or to contact your office. These inquiries can be logged and followed up by your sales team to make sure you get the most out of your online efforts. With a website it is possible to open new avenues of contact with your visitors, and rather than cold calling, you are now able to emphasis on converting these interested parties into customers.
When a Green Web Design is optimized, sales can be through the roof. Imagine going from not having a website, to all of a sudden, having this powerful marketing tool, working hard for you 24/7. There is no room for loss, only room to grow as you make your site accessible to potential customers through powerful search engines. They will now be able to access and contact you in a way they never could before. You have now made yourself accessible and have gained an important foothold in the market, able to compete with the big competitors. By taking advantage of our optimized Pay Per Click Management, Search Engine Optimization, and Search Engine Marketing services, you can be sure that your company is taking advantage of every opportunity to grow in the online world. Internet Marketing is the fastest way to grow your business and we encourage you contact us today at 1-866-937-1717 to boost your ROI.

Hello, here are a few things to keep in mind when programming your website for SEO purposes. Some of these suggestions are no brainers but some others may surprise you. If you find this useful to you in your work or if you have suggestions on how to improve this list, I would love to hear about. Please leave a comment.
Before programming a website it is always a good idea to have an effective SEO strategy. It provides a basis for which to set up each page and it makes for easier content editing in the future. A keyword list must be provided to the programmer for them to follow this structure. This keyword list will help guide the strategy per page as there will be a primary keyword to target and secondary keywords to also use throughout the site.
By making each page unique and keyword targeted, we will be effectively making each page an optimized landing page. This will increase the odds of being found because a search engine doesn’t always arrive at the home page. If each page is targeted, the viewer has probably found exactly what they were looking for and it will lower the chance of a bounce (quickly leaving the site without spending time reviewing it). This can only be achieved by making the content relevant to the keywords.
1. A website’s structure should be separate from the website’s appearance.
- Make sure to declare the values and properties of your tags in the CSS and avoid doing so in html.
2. Use the H1 tag once per page. Other important headlines should be H2.
- H3 and H4 are often ignored by crawlers as they are seen as less important.
3. Each page should have its own unique keyword rich title. Keywords should target only the content of the page.
4. A description tag is necessary on each page targeting the keywords for the page.
- Meta data should always be high on the page in the head tag to make it easier to be found by crawlers.
5. Meta keywords should be included next to the description and should be unique to each page.
- Although Google does not place high importance on the keywords, it’s more important with other search engines and directories. It also allows anyone who will be editing the page in the future to see what the targeted keyword strategy when editing content.
- Only a few keywords should be used per a page (3-4). They will be grouped as a main target keyword and supporting keywords.
6. Avoid using too many images.
- Slow websites have a higher bounce rate (people will leave the site without spending time looking through it).
7. Each image should have keyword rich alt tags.
- Incorporate a description of the image using the keywords for the page
- If page has several images avoid over-using the same keyword, refer to supporting keywords. Overusing the same keyword may increase the odds of being labeled as a spam site.
8. File names of each html page should use the keywords separated by a dash (-) not an underscore(_).
9. Copy contents should be keyword rich
- Be sure to add the keywords high on the page, and in the first few sentences of each paragraph.
- Often crawlers will only read a few sentences before dropping the page or adding it to the SERP (search engine results page)
- Avoid using the same content on different pages
- Avoid using keywords from other pages
10. Consider the order of importance a search engine places on a page when adding your primary and secondary keywords. These vary in importance with different crawler’s but it is generally accepted that the page title will be the most important section to optimize.
- Title
- Description
- URL
- H1
- H2
- Copy Content
- Bold/Emphasized
- File Names
- Alt tags
- Keywords

Have you labored long hours optimizing a site, waited a few weeks and got no results? It can be caused by multiple factors some of which may include over-optimization, lack of search engine indexing, and the page being to new to be considered as a relevant site for good search engine ranking. Once these possibilities are examined and adjusted, and you still get no results, consider your host. When was the last time you checked up on your neighbors?
Hosting companies will often host several URL addresses and don’t always discriminate on the quality of website on their database. Your website will often be placed next to black listed sites that are known for their black hat spamming practices. In their attempt to maintain their service as relevant as possible, search engines may also penalize you for living next to these deviant sites. They will actually see you as more likely to be another spam site. Lucky for us there are tools we can use to find out exactly who is living next to us so we can avoid search engine penalties.
http://www.majesticseo.com/research/neighbourhood-checker.php
This tool will allow you to find out who else is being hosted next to you and who they link to. With the use of this tool, you can find out if the neighbor next door is a predator, and you will now know to take serious action by moving far far away to a different hosting account.
Search Engines can also penalize you for your associations. If you have a lot of incoming links from spam sites, you will not necessarily be penalized because search engines understand that you yourself may be a victim of spam. Yet if you have just one outbound link to a spam site, your ranking may drop significantly. By adding a link to a known bad site, you are endorsing their bad behaviors and will be considered as a possible spam site. Even if you link to a reputable site that itself has bad links, you may still be penalized. Testing all of your links is important and if you can find just one bad link, your efforts will have been worthwhile. Luckily, there are a few tools available to test the links on your site and the links on those sites that you link to. I recommend the bad neighborhood link tool available at:
http://www.bad-neighborhood.com
This tool will help you find those links that can be hurting your reputation, your ranking, and your bottom line. Once you have entered your URL, sit back and let the tool do its work. You will be able to see where the weaknesses in your site exist so that you can later fix them. You may just be surprised at what you find.
As a San Diego SEO Company, we understand that every little thing makes a difference. That is why we make an effort to provide you with valuable real world information that can help your site. We work hard to provide you with as much insight to the SEO world as possible so that you can learn to trust our abilities and our committment to your success. If you have a site that you feel may be getting black listed and is not increasing in ranking despite your efforts, call SABA today for an indepth analysis.
